Music by Elton John
Lyrics by Bernie Taupin
Available on the album Tumbleweed Connection
You tell me there's an angel in your tree
Did he say he'd come to call on me
For things are getting desperate in our home
Living in the parish of the restless folks I know
Everybody now bring your family down to the riverside
Look to the east to see where the fat stock hide
Behind four walls of stone the rich man sleeps
It's time we put the flame torch to their keep
Burn down the mission
If we're gonna stay alive
Watch the black smoke fly to heaven
See the red flame light the sky
Burn down the mission
Burn it down to stay alive
It's our only chance of living
Take all you need to live inside
Deep in the woods the squirrels are out today
My wife cried when they came to take me away
But what more could I do just to keep her warm
Than burn burn burn burn down the mission walls

Nigel looked like he had less hair than he did later on in the seventies and eghties.

I think he was, and is beautiful. His music, especially the 70's stuff, sends me all over the emotional spectrum. LOVE him!

This brings back great memories ........... man, Elton was a rock god back then, Page and company doin' their thing, and, well, life was good. The 70's were a special time and Elton and band encapsulated so much of that in their songs, outfits, and stage show that I forgot how cool it really was. He's come a long way as a song writer, however I prefer the first 13 years or so....real rock and not as laid back as his work has become. It's still wonderful, and I'm laid back now, too. Burn it down!

i think it's wonderfull. Because when you look at him, i mean he's not that you will call beautifull, but when he opens hes mouth and playing on the piano, you don't think about, you just watch. Elton John is amazing !

This brings back great memories for me also. My friend Bob Wilisch, may he rest in peace, gave me this on an 8 track when we were in the ninth grade. This was a truly great album. He was a good friend too.

What great fun. Great power with musical/piano talent. A joy to behold. Better, yet, a joy to play! Even the drummer is a proud recipient of Elton and Bernie's musical discovery ! Lucky us to have them share the experience.

Remembering Dee Murray today. Raise a glass for a great bass player.
